The reason I wanted to start this community is to distance myself from people I despise.
I used to not mind being called an emo kid. It was an easy way to identify what someone was into. I stuck with the term for a couple years.
Then the MTV people came along. The kids who's musical boundaries stopped at Taking Back Sunday. The ones who wear Green Day hats with Dashboard pins. Incidentally, these are also the kids who cut themselves for attention while listening to My Chemical Romance. They also adopted the term "emo kids".
You can see the problem here. The mainstream is lumping me, a well-adjusted, musically-sound young man, in with these attention-whoring hooligans. I can't have that.
It must be the same way true punk-rockers feel about Green Day punk kids. Whereas the true punk kids are willing to fight for their name, I am choosing a different route.
I've decided to go back to basics. Back when my favoite bands weren't emo yet, they were just good bands.
This community is for people who are embarassed to join emo communities because the new definition of the term does not fit them.
